Cue Card

Live captions for theater

Every seat can follow every word.

Cue Card puts your show's captions on your audience's own phones — in sync with the performance, in a style each person chooses. No app. No account. No special seats.

Free to start — no payment details needed. Set up your first show in minutes.

Captions from our demo show, as an audience member sees them.

Almost no friction

Scan. Read. That's the whole thing.

Nobody has to download anything or remember a password in the lobby five minutes before curtain.

  1. Scan the code

Point a phone camera at the QR code in your program or on a lobby sign. Prefer typing? Enter the short show code instead.

  2. Captions appear

The page opens in the phone's browser and joins the show right away. Latecomers see the most recent lines straight away.

  3. Make it comfortable

Text size, font, colors and more are one tap away — and the phone remembers the choices for next time.

  • No app to install
  • No account or sign-in
  • No special seats
  • No hardware to borrow

Any device, your way

Phones, tablets, laptops. Set it up to read easily.

Captions open in any modern browser. Each audience member tunes size, font and colors for their own eyes — without changing anything for anyone else. Try it:

Why Cue Card

Better for the audience. Easier for the theater. Open to more ideas.

Captions shouldn't be a separate performance with its own seating chart. They should be there for whoever finds them useful.

For audiences

  • Deaf and hard-of-hearing patrons follow the full text from any seat, not just the "captioned performance" night.
  • Non-native speakers and anyone with auditory processing differences get a second channel to follow dense or fast dialogue.
  • Everyone else catches the line lost to a cough, a heavy accent, or a bad seat — without turning to ask.
  • Sit with your group. Nobody is moved to a "caption section."

For theater management

  • Offer access at every performance instead of a few scheduled ones.
  • No hardware to buy, charge, or hand out. Audiences use the phone they already have.
  • Simple to run. Operators post captions from a teleprompter view or an existing captioning tool.
  • Your theater, your look. Your colors and logo on the audience screen.

For directors & designers

  • Captions that follow your script, with speakers and cues you've prepared.
  • A dramaturg channelPlanned — program notes and context delivered to the audience's phones.
  • TranslationsPlanned — the same performance, readable in more languages.
  • Audio descriptionPlanned — a companion track for blind and low-vision audience members.
